Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Support Group
The IBD Patient Support Group is a chance for patients to come together, meet other patients with IBD, and learn about their illness and ways to cope with it in an environment that is fun, informal and supportive.
The group is co-led by social workers and child life specialists. Patient activities in the past have included creating personal pain scales, going on a tour of the operating room where GI procedures take place, learning about nutrition and making a banner for the Annual Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America's Guts and Glory Walk.
The most exciting product of the group is our newsletter, Gastro Gossip, which features input from the members of the group, recaps of recent meetings and information about upcoming events.
- The group meets the second Wednesday of every month during the school year.
- The parent group meets at the same time as the patient. Siblings are welcomed and encouraged to join!
If you are interested in learning more about the group please contact, Stephanie Atlas, LICSW at 401-444-3247 or Karen Swartz, CCLS at 401-444-5613.
