Hasbro Children’s Hospital’s surgical services bring together complete specialty coverage for:

The surgical specialists work with board-certified pediatric anesthesiologists, nurses and technical staff to bring about the absolute best outcomes from surgical procedures in an environment nationally recognized for teaching and research. The child and family environment begins with the preoperative experience that encompasses the POP program. This program is managed by pediatric anesthesia and the post-anesthesia care unit (PACU), and introduces patients and families to the surgical experience in an open fashion, answering their questions and accommodating their special needs.

During the surgical experience families are encouraged to have a family member at the child’s side before he or she is administered anesthesia and after surgery in the recovery room. The PACU provides specific information about the patient’s procedure along with educational materials to help families in the post-operative phase of care follow the instructions of the surgical service and continue their recovery as inpatients or outpatients.

Child life workers in the operating room are focused on the needs of surgical patients, and are present from the admission process through discharge. Advice regarding surgical services or complex multidisciplinary surgical referrals and consultations may be obtained from the pediatric surgeon-in-chief at 401-444-7605.
