Pediatric Anesthesiology
Physicians specially trained in pediatric anesthesiology care for infants, children and adolescents undergoing surgery at Hasbro Children's Hospital.
The department services include anesthesia
expertise for cardiovascular and neurosurgical procedures that are provided
by the only subspecialty trained group in the region. The department offers
state-of-the-art anesthesia equipment and pain therapy services, through a
comprehensive program of acute postoperative pain management, as well as
diagnostic and therapeutic treatments for chronic pain problems.
The department provides approximately 7,000 anesthetics each year in five operating rooms, an on-site procedure suite, and numerous off-site locations, including MRI, CT scan, interventional radiology, nuclear medicine and radiation therapy. This includes care of neonates from the special care nursery at Women and Infants' Hospital who require surgical intervention at Hasbro Children's.
Rhode Island
Hospital is a national leader in the development of anesthesia monitoring and
information systems. Pediatric anesthesiologists have developed the specialty
techniques and monitoring to support in utero fetal surgery.
The division provides an active teaching environment for medical students, pediatric residents, anesthesia residents and student nurse anesthetists from both St. Joseph's and Northeastern Schools of Nurse Anesthesia.
