Teens in high school are invited to participate in a weekly skills-based group utilizing a dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) informed approach. DBT is designed to help individuals effectively manage their emotional experiences to live healthier and more satisfying lives. This group is intended for teens who are participating in weekly or biweekly individual therapy, and could benefit from additional support for managing distress, regulating emotions and eliminating self-destructive behaviors.
Groups will meet weekly over 15 weeks. Each week, teens will have the opportunity to learn and practice new skills in the areas of mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance and interpersonal effectiveness. Parents will also be invited to participate in select sessions with their teen to review DBT skills and to support the use of these skills outside of group sessions.
New groups start every three months. Registration is open year round. Groups will be filled on a first come, first served basis and teens will be matched according to age and level of need.
