    The Newport County Summer Youth Employment Program offers youths the chance to:

    • have a paid job for up to 37 hours per week for eight weeks
    • earn an hourly wage up to $8
    • explore a variety of exciting career opportunities
    • network and prepare for a successful future career
    • have professional career experts help participants with their career path

    In 2013, the van Beuren Charitable Foundation provided funding to Lifespan and The Newport County Chamber of Commerce to engage local employers and create a system of youth employment opportunities. The result was the Newport County Summer Youth Employment Program which piloted in summer 2014 and will continue in 2015.

    Program Duration

    The program runs from July to August 2015.


    Youths must attend two trainings and all paperwork events prior to the start of summer.


    Youths must:

    • be between the ages of 16 and 20 years old (must be 16 before April 2015)
    • be a resident of Newport County (Jamestown, Little Compton, Middletown, Newport, Portsmouth or Tiverton)
    • possess a willingness to learn new skills and commit to the program schedule

    How to Apply

    Applications for the 2015 Newport County Youth Employment Program are now being accepted. Applications must be filled out and submitted online no later than Friday, February 27, 2015 at 5 p.m.

    1. Fill out the Newport County Youth Workforce Program application by February 27, 2015.
    2. Only applicants who meet the eligibility criteria above will be considered for an interview.
    3. If you are selected for an interview you will receive a phone call from a member of our staff.
    4. If you are not selected for an interview you will receive a notification by email.
