Ellen and Joshua Pinnock desperately wanted a family. They had suffered a miscarriage in the past. After learning they were expecting again, Ellen developed preeclampsia, a condition with no known cause and delivery its only cure.

Founded in 1873, Newport's first cottage hospital was built, equipped and endowed entirely by contributions from private citizens. Through the years, Newport County residents have been generous supporters of the hospital. Now, the hospital has undertaken a new challenge for the 21st century.
