Services for Patients
- Food and Meals
Our professional registered dietitians are available to provide
your child with nutritious, balanced meals. They work with nurses
and doctors to plan the appropriate diet for each child. Each
morning your child will receive a menu for the following day.
Nursing staff members will be happy to help in making selections.
If your child is on a special diet please discourage friends from
bringing in food from outside. Meals are served at the following
times:
- Breakfast: 7:45 a.m.
- Lunch: 11:45 a.m.
- Dinner: 4:45 p.m.
- Gift Shop
The gift shop is located in the main lobby and is operated by
the hospital auxiliary for the convenience of patients, families,
visitors and staff. The shop provides a selection of fine gift
items, fresh flowers, books, games, magazines and candy.
- Social Work
The social work department offers professional counseling to patients
and their families that is related to the medical and social needs
that accompany an illness. Social workers are skilled professionals
and are trained in providing supportive services necessary after
discharge from the hospital. Patients, physicians or family members
may request assistance from the social work department.
- Medications
All medications your child receives as a patient have been prescribed
by their doctor. Please leave your child's other medicines at
home. The hospital pharmacy will supply the medications ordered
by your child's doctor during their stay. Upon discharge you will
receive a pamphlet with specific instructions about your child's
medications.
- Mail Deliveries
All mail will be delivered on a daily basis (except on Sundays)
directly to your child's room.
- Tests and Treatments
The tests and treatments your child will have depend on his/her
individual needs. Many tests and treatments are performed in your
child's room. However, when special procedures are needed, your
child will be brought to the appropriate department by wheelchair
or stretcher. Parents are welcome to accompany their child. All
test results are reported to your doctor, who will discuss the
results with you.
- Hospital Volunteers
Newport Hospital takes pride in our hospital volunteers who contribute
their time and services to the well-being of others. Their reward
lies in the satisfaction of a job well done. Volunteers provide
the following services: assisting with admitting procedures, transporting
for tests and discharges, delivery of flowers and gifts.
- Hospital Chaplain
Newport Hospital recognizes the spiritual needs of our patients.
A hospital chaplain will be available to assist in your individual
religious needs.
- Educational Needs
The nursing staff will assist in providing referrals for children
who may be absent from school for more than three weeks due to
illness.
Remember, if you have any questions
concerning your child's hospitalization please feel free to ask
your pediatrician or one of the pediatric nurses. For more information
