The library director and staff welcome the opportunity to assist
you in using the library to the fullest potential. The library is
maintained primarily to support patient care and education and is
available to all Newport Hospital staff. The library is also open
to the community as a resource for their health information needs.
The Carnegie Abbey Library Resource Center staff is available to
assist in locating information and in developing search strategies.
- Literature searches. A literature search locates information
on a particular topic from such sources as journal articles, newspapers,
and government/technical reports. Our library staff members are
available to help with accessing online databases and with formulating
a search strategy. The library staff will also conduct literature
searches by request.
- Interlibrary loan/document delivery. If it's not in the
library, we can get it for you. The Carnegie Abbey Library Resource
Center participates in a vast interlibrary loan network, permitting
access to more than 1,500 medical libraries across the country.
The library is a member of the Regional Medical Library Network
of the National Library of Medicine, and through the automated
online document delivery system, DOCLINE, obtains materials that
are not available in our collection. To facilitate the loan of
books and journal articles, the library belongs to several local
and regional consortia, including the Association of Rhode Island
Health Sciences Libraries, the Basic Health Sciences Library Network,
Free Share, and the Rhode Island Library Network.
