Noreen Stonor Drexel Birthing Center

Of all the places I have worked, typically labor and delivery units, the Noreen Stonor Drexel Birthing Center at Newport Hospital is by far the most enjoyable. I’ve been here for seven years. Not only is the center attractive, but there is a sense of family-like closeness among patients and staff.

The rooms are comfortable and are equipped with all the latest clinical tools. We have a nursery and a cesarean section room. New parents are encouraged to practice their parenting skills during their stay with us, so they can gain the confidence to care for their newborn once they return home. We offer the Warm Line for those questions and concerns that parents have prior to admission and after discharge.

We offer expectant couples childbirth classes, sibling classes, infant CPR, tours of the birthing center, Safe Sitter classes, breastfeeding classes and a breastfeeding support group. Laboring patients can choose from a variety of methods to manage their labor, including whirlpool tubs, ambulation, rocking chairs, sisal ball, music, pain medication and epidurals. We support their individual choices, and we offer suggestions to help patients through the labor, delivery, postpartum and newborn phases.

All RNs are certified in neonatal resuscitation, many are IBCLCs (International Board Certified Lactation Consultants), several are bereavement counselors, many hold certification in obstetric-related areas, and there is a core group of RNs who are certified to scrub for cesarean sections. We were recently awarded the Baby Friendly hospital status—remarkable for a small community hospital.

Join us as we continue to provide the highest quality patient care in one of the most beautiful places imaginable.
