Emergency Department
When asked why I love emergency nursing, several things come to mind. First of all, ED nursing forces me to pay close attention to my patients, because they provide information through all our senses. The integration of this information forms the complete clinical picture. Second, imagining the worst-case scenario, then working backward to disprove these diagnoses, helps me put the situation in perspective. Third, when the worst case does indeed occur, it usually does so rapidly, which requires the utilization of all the skills developed through experience.
