Responsibilities of Patients and Families
The Vanderbilt Rehabilitation Center at Newport Hospital has the right to
expect behavior from our patients and families that, considering the nature of
the illness involved, is reasonable and responsible.
- You and your family are responsible for providing, to the best of your
knowledge, accurate and complete information about present complaints, past
illnesses, hospitalizations, medications and other health-related matters.
- You and your family are responsible for reporting unexpected changes in
your condition.
- You and your family are responsible for asking questions if you do not
understand what you have been told about your care or about what you are
expected to do.
- You are responsible for following the treatment plan and instructions
developed with your doctor, including instructions from nurses and other
hospital staff.
- You are responsible for taking only drugs prescribed by your physician and
no other drugs.
- You and your family are responsible for expressing your concerns about
your ability to follow the proposed course of treatment.
- You and your family are responsible for the outcome if you refuse
treatment or do not follow instructions.
- You and your family are responsible for keeping appointments and for
notifying your doctor or the hospital when you are unable to keep an
appointment.
- You and your family are responsible for ensuring that your financial
obligations to the hospital and doctors are fulfilled as promptly as
possible.
- You and your family are responsible for following hospital rules and
regulations regarding care and conduct.
- You and your family are responsible for being considerate of the rights
and confidentiality of other patients and of the Vanderbilt Rehabilitation
Center at Newport Hospital personnel, and for assisting in the control of
noise and the number and age of visitors.
- You and your family are responsible for observing the Vanderbilt
Rehabilitation Center's no-smoking rule.
- You and your family are responsible for respecting the property of other
patients and staff at the hospital.
- You and your family are responsible for informing your doctor and your
health care team of any advance directives you have.
