The Miriam Hospital held a groundbreaking event for its new Patient Services Center on Wednesday, May 25. The groundbreaking signified the official start of "Project Miriam Makeover"—a three-phase project to renovate the hospital for the future health care needs of the people of southern New England.

Phase one of the project is the construction of the new Patient Services Center, which will house a surgical suite with ten operating rooms, a diagnostic imaging suite, cafeteria, conference rooms and 36 private patient care rooms.

Members of the hospital's leadership and invited guests, including: Kathleen Hittner, MD, president and CEO; Jeffrey Brier, chairman, The Miriam Hospital board of trustees; Sandra Coletta, senior vice-president and COO; and local politicians spoke at the event.

The event concluded with a ceremonial groundbreaking and unveiling of the architectural renderings of the Patient Services Center.
