Pappas Breast Imaging Services Expand
May 20, 2008

To meet an increasing demand for digital mammography, Rhode Island Hospital has added a new screening center within its Anne C. Pappas Center for Breast Imaging.

The new facility, at 2 Dudley Street, uses only digital units and is geared to women requiring routine screening mammograms. The center offers breast screening and breast diagnostic imaging services as well as other diagnostic imaging services in a compassionate, caring and woman-friendly environment.

Women who seek routine screenings should experience a shorter wait time now that the center’s services have expanded. Martha Mainiero, MD, the center’s new director, says, “With a long history of exceptional care and the latest in equipment, the women of our region can quickly receive an appointment for a routine screening and feel confident that they are receiving the best possible care.”

The Anne C. Pappas Center for Breast Imaging at Rhode Island Hospital was the first in the state to offer digital mammography. In October 2007 it earned designation as a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence from the American College of Radiologists (ACR). It is the only facility in the state to receive the designation.
