The Adolescent Leadership Council (TALC) from Hasbro Children’s Hospital will be hosting its first-ever event for pre-teens this summer. TALC, which provides mentoring and group programs for teenagers with chronic illnesses, is offering a one-day summer camp for children ages 10 to 12 with any type of chronic illness. The camp will be held on Saturday, July 19, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Smith Buonano Lobby, on the first floor of the Pembroke Campus at Brown University. TALC will also host a parent event from 3 to 4 p.m. on the same day.
Participants will spend the day taking part in activities with other pre-teens, teen mentors and college student mentors–all of whom have chronic illnesses. Medical staff from Hasbro Children’s Hospital will be present during the day camp. Parents are invited to attend “Parent Council” during the last hour of the day camp. This will serve as an opportunity for parents to meet other parents of children with chronic illnesses.
This is a free event. For more information about the camp, or to register, please contact TALC program coordinator Jennifer Shucard at 401-444-7563, or email TALCteens@gmail.com.
