Two Lifespan Employees Recognized at Health Care Executives Annual Meeting

Two Lifespan employees took center stage at the recent annual awards breakfast of the Rhode Island chapter of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE). August Cordeiro, FACHE, vice president and chief administrative officer at Rhode Island Hospital, received the group’s Senior-Level Healthcare Executives Regent’s Award. Arthur Sampson, FACHE, president and CEO of Newport Hospital was elected president of the chapter.

The Regent’s Award recognizes ACHE affiliates who are experienced in the field and have significantly contributed toward the advancement of healthcare management excellence and the achievement of the goals of ACHE.

Affiliates are evaluated on leadership ability, innovation and creative management, executive capability in developing their own organization and promoting its growth and stature in the community, contributions to the development of to others in the health care profession, leadership in local, state, or provincial hospital and health association activities, participation in civic/community activities and projects, and participation in ACHE activities and interest in assisting ACHE in achieving its objectives.

Cordeiro has held his current role at Rhode Island Hospital since 2002. Previously he held various positions at Newport Hospital in Newport, Rhode Island for 20 years. Cordeiro received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Rhode Island and his master’s degree in health services administration from Salve Regina University, Newport, RI.

Sampson was elected to a two-year term as president by the membership. Sampson has been president and CEO of Newport Hospital since 1994, having joined the hospital in 1986. He holds a master’s degree in health care administration from the George Washington University and served administrative residencies at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore and Union-Truesdale Hospital – now Charlton Memorial Hospital – in Fall River, Massachusetts.

Both Sampson and Cordeiro hold Fellow status in the American College of Healthcare Executives, demonstrating a commitment to professional excellence.
