  • Advantages of surgical repair include:

    • a higher degree of return to original functional level, 
    • an increase in patient satisfaction, 
    • a permanent solution to the original injury, and 
    • a decrease in further injuries within the knee. 

    There are possible complications, especially if you do not complete your rehabilitation program, or return to sports too quickly:

    • After the surgery, an occasional patient will not regain full motion due to the build- up of scar tissue. This is very serious and may require manipulating the knee under anesthesia. The incidence is reduced with early aggressive physical therapy.
    • Occasionally patients are unable to return to their previous level of athletic performance in spite of successful surgery and rehabilitation.
