Newport Hospital nurse receives first DAISY award in Rhode Island
In celebration of National Nurses Week 2010, Newport Hospital - the only hospital in the state to participate in the national DAISY award program for extraordinary nurses - presented the first DAISY award to Patricia Bestoso, RN, of Warren.
Bestoso, a registered nurse in the medical-surgical unit, was selected for the award because she is known as a caring and compassionate nurse who advocates for her patients and her colleagues, and who goes beyond what is expected of her to ensure a patient's comfort and dignity.
Newport Hospital is the first and only hospital in Rhode Island to participate in the DAISY award program, joining more than 560 organizations committed to honoring their nurses throughout the year the award. This program was established by the family of a young man whose life was touched by nurses.
The DAISY award for extraordinary nurses honors the compassion and care that bedside nurses provide their patients every day. The program was implemented by Newport Hospital's Staff Nurse Council.(Posted 05/13/10)
