Instructions for Preparation of Abstracts and Posters

General

Researchers at any Brown University-affiliated hospital may submit abstracts and posters. Please note that an individual investigator may appear as first author on one abstract only. However, there is no limit on the number of times an investigator may appear as a secondary author.

Presentations must be based on original research. We welcome work that is currently underway as well as work that has recently been presented at an annual society meeting, symposium, etc. All abstracts meeting the above requirements will be accepted for inclusion until we reach our maximum number of poster spaces.

Abstracts

Researchers wishing to participate in the poster session must submit an abstract and a data sheet to Sara Spangenberger at SSpangenberger@Lifespan.org or at Core Research Labs, Coro West, Room 4.212, RIH.   *Please Note:  To ensure that your abstract was received, you must receive a confirmation email from Ms. Spangenberger (typically within 1-2 days).  DO NOT ASSUME that your abstract was received if you do not get a confirmation email!

The abstract must be typed on the abstract form in the expandable box indicated on the abstract form. The title must be in bold face and in uppercase. The entire abstract must be in Times Font, Size 12.  It must not be longer than approximately 380 words and 34 lines. Please refer to the sample provided online for desired layout.

Abstracts must meet these uniform requirements as they will be printed out and bound in booklet form. If your abstract does not meet these requirements, it will be sent back for revision.

Posters

Posters must fit within a 4 X 4 foot space. All posters will be displayed all day. It is requested that they be in place by 9 a.m. on the day of the Research Celebration. Presenters with odd numbers should be present at their posters from 1-2:30 p.m. Presenters with even numbers should be present at their posters from 2:30-4 p.m.

Poster numbers will be determined once all abstracts have been received. Questions and suggestions are welcome and may be addressed to Dr. McMillan at (401) 444-6859 or PMcMillan@Lifespan.org, or to Sara Spangenberger at (401) 444-4245 or SSpangenberger@Lifespan.org.
