Allergy or Cold?

Sometimes it may be difficult to tell them apart. Both can cause a stuffy, runny nose, sinus headache, sneezing and coughing. What's the difference?

Allergy symptoms usually:

  • Last longer than two weeks
  • Occur at about the same time each year
  • Get better or worse depending on the immediate environment or circumstances
  • Include itchy, sticky, red eyes
  • Include an itchy nose and dry throat

A good rule of thumb is to tell your doctor about symptoms that last longer than two weeks. He or she can recommend an allergy specialist if necessary.
