I am writing to you as a recovering cancer patient. I was diagnosed with biliary duct cancer in December of 2005 and immediately referred to Dr. David Ianitti for a whipple procedure on January 4, 2006. The eight-hour operation was a success, thanks to the unbelievable skill of the surgeon.
Within a few weeks I began my chemotherapy followed by radiation and more chemotherapy. I cannot say enough good things about all the people in those departments. You have very competent and skilled staff that offers outstanding service. I never waited longer than ten minutes for any appointment over the six months of treatment. Their attitude at all times was upbeat and sometimes even humorous. I think that is what gets you through this dreaded illness most of the time is that ability to see the funny side of life.
Dr. Safran and Dr. DiPetrillo are the best. They are very caring and thorough in the care of their patients. They never gave me false hope, were honest in their conversations and very encouraging in every way possible.
I am almost two years out and so far cancer free. I feel great and enjoy every day that I am fortunate enough to be alive. Rhode Island Hospital should be very proud of the Comprehensive Cancer Center. I feel that I could not have been treated better at any other facility. My heartfelt thanks go out to you and all the great folks on your staff. On behalf of myself and my grateful family-God bless you all.
