Background

Henry Sachs, MD, is the medical director of Bradley Hospital and a clinical assistant professor in the department of psychiatry and human behavior in the Warren Alpert School of Medicine at Brown University. A board certified child and adolescent psychiatrist, Sachs received an undergraduate degree in psychology before attending the Dartmouth-Brown Medical Program, receiving his MD in 1988. After completing an internship at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center and a residency and fellowship in the Brown University department of psychiatry and human behavior, he joined the clinical staff at Bradley Hospital in 1993 as an attending psychiatrist on the Center for Autism and Developmental Disabilities.

Over the next 14 years, Sachs, in addition to his clinical responsibilities, served as president of the medical staff, chairman of the pharmacy and therapeutics and medical record committees of the hospital and co-leader of the course on medical interviewing for first year medical students at the Warren Alpert School of Medicine. Since 2007 he has been medical director of the hospital as well as director of the child and adolescent program. As medical director of a hospital in a larger four hospital system, Lifespan. Sachs is a member of the system wide quality and safety committee, the meaningful use committee and the chief medical officers' group that guides quality and safety planning and initiatives for the system.

Sachs' research interests are in the areas of sleep and autism. He co-chairs the Rhode Island Collaboration for Autism Research and Treatment (RI-CART), a multi-institutional research group comprised of hospitals, community agencies and Brown University. He also serves on the executive committee of several community boards including a community mental health center, a children's residential program and a shelter for the homeless.
