Peter Quesenberry, MD, has held the role of director of hematology-oncology at Rhode Island Hospital and The Miriam Hospital since October 2006. He also holds the academic title of Paul Calabresi, MD, Professor of Oncology and Professor of Medicine at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University.

Quesenberry received his bachelor’s degree and his medical degree in internal medicine from the University of Virginia. He completed his internship at University Hospital in Boston and completed his residency at Boston City Hospital. He completed his clinical hematology fellowship at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Massachusetts, as well as his Research Hematology Fellowship.

Quesenberry has been honored to receive numerous clinical and teaching awards throughout his career and continues to be a renowned clinician, teacher and author. He has expertise in the field of hematologic-oncologic malignancies and bone marrow transplantation, and is admired and respected by his many clinical and research colleagues from local to international levels, and is an honored teacher and mentor to fellows, residents and medical students. He has a total of 288 publications in peer-reviewed journals. Quesenberry continues his clinical and research activity in the specific areas hematologic malignancies, bone marrow transplantation, and microvesicle and stem cell research.

Quesenberry currently serves as the principal investigator for both a Center of Biological Research Excellence (COBRE) grant (Stem Cell Biology: New Directions in Clinical and Basic Research, total award $11,088,327) and a newly awarded R01 grant (Genetic Information Transfer to Hematopoietic Cells: Role of Microvesicles, total award $1,545,000).
