If you, a family member or friend are suffering one or more of these or another psychiatric illness, or if you suspect your patient is, contact the Psychiatric Emergency Service (PES) at Rhode Island Hospital. The PES provides urgent and emergent diagnostic evaluations, crisis management and referral to a treatment program tailored to the individual.
Our attending psychiatrist and master's level clinicians are committed to finding the least restrictive environment in which patients may be safely and effectively treated.
Because of our location-adjacent to the emergency department at Rhode Island Hospital-the PES is uniquely capable of working with emergency staff when necessary to evaluate quickly both primary psychiatric illness and the complex interplay of medical and psychiatric issues to obtain a thorough and efficient medical evaluation prior to formulation of treatment recommendations.
Through Lifespan Behavioral Health Services, the PES refers to a wide range of multidisciplinary treatment programs. These include psychotherapies (talk therapies), psychopharmacologic management, day hospital treatment and inpatient treatment.
For referrals to the Psychiatric Emergency Services, call 401-444-4779. We accept most third party payments, including Medicare and Medicaid.
