Research Celebration

The 17th annual research celebration will take place on October 22, 2009 in the George Auditorium and Gerry House at Rhode Island Hospital from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Deadline for abstract submission will be September 10, 2009.

We are extremely pleased to have distinguished scientist, Leslie M. Shaw, Ph.D., Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine , and Director of Clinical Toxicology at the University of Pennsylvania. He is internationally renowned for his studies regarding toxicology, markers for Alzheimer's Disease, clinical chemistry and immunosuppressants. Dr Shaw's lecture is entitled "Early detection of Alzheimer's Disease: Are biochemical and imaging biomarkers ready for the challenge?"

Roland C. Merchant, MD.,MPH, ScD, winner of the 2008 Bruce Selya Award of Excellence in Research, will present a lecture entitled "HIV screening and diagnostic testing in US emergency departments: what have we learned so far?". Dr Merchant is Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine and Community Health at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University and an attending physician in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Rhode Island Hospital and Hasbro Children's Hospital.
