The Anne C. Pappas Center for Breast Imaging

Pappas Center

Breast imaging is a specialized field in radiology that studies the breast. In some patients, procedures are performed in the breast imaging division to either obtain a sample of tissue or to help find an abnormality in the breast for the surgeon.

The Digital Advantage

Rhode Island Hospital is first hospital in Rhode Island to offer digital mammography. With digital mammography, the images can be stored and transferred via computer, and physicians can use specialized software to help interpret results. In a study, digital mammography was shown to detect up to 28 percent more cancers in some women.
