Cardiac Services
The Heart Failure and Cardiac Transplant Program
Comprehensive Services
Our services include:
- Diagnosis and medical management of heart failure.
- Innovative treatments and access to clinical trials.
- Evaluation of patients for cardiac transplantation and management
post-transplant.
- Evaluation for the presence of myocardial viability.
- Conventional and novel surgical and catheter-based revascularization
techniques.
Precision Diagnosis and Medical Therapy
The program offers specialized physiological testing to aid in
diagnosis, including gated-SPECT myocardial perfusion imaging, dobutamine
stress echocardiography, exercise radionuclide ventriculography,
measurement of maximal oxygen consumption and anaerobic threshold,
and exercise hemodynamics.
These tests are used:
- to distinguish between cardiac and non-cardiac causes for functional
impairment,
- to identify potential benefit of revascularization procedures
in high-risk patients and
- to assess the appropriateness of cardiac transplantation.
A full spectrum of medical treatment is available, including:
- preventive measures in asymptomatic patients with low ejection
fraction
- optimization of conventional treatment options
- management of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and heart failure
due to diastolic dysfunction
- intermittent intravenous inotropic therapy in severely ill patients
- access to investigational treatments through clinical trials
