Osteoporosis Treatment Options
Possible treatments for osteoporosis include:
A diet with sufficient calcium and vitamin D; your physician
may suggest calcium and vitamin D supplements.
Exercise, such as walking, lifting weights or using weight
machines, may also help to increase your bone density and your
strength.
Medications are available to reduce bone loss and increase
bone thickness, including:
- Alendronate (Fosamax)
- Raloxifene (Evista)
- Calcitonin (Miacalcin) nasal spray
- Risedronate (Actonel)
- Teriparatide (Forteo)
