Marc J. Laufgraben, MD, joined the faculty in 2001 as associate director for clinical care in the division of endocrinology and the new Hallett Center for Diabetes and Endocrinology. His education includes a BA in the biological basis of behavior from the University of Pennsylvania, an MA in creative writing and english from New York University, and an MD from Harvard Medical School. He completed internal medicine residency training as well as subspecialty training in endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Boston. He has previously served as an instructor in medicine at Harvard Medical School and a staff endocrinologist at Brigham and Women's Hospital.

His honors include the SmithKlineBeecham Junior Faculty Award in Diabetes and the Partners in Excellence Award from Partners Healthcare in Boston. He has served on the editorial board of The New Physician and, at present, the Tarascon Pocket Pharmacopia. He is a dedicated educator who in 2001 and 2002 received the Dean's Teaching Excellence award from Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. He is a co-investigator in BARI-2D, a National Institutes of Health-sponsored clinical research study of cardiovascular outcomes in diabetics. Laufgraben is the principal investigator in a new study of inhaled insulin in patients with type 2 diabetes.
