Curriculum
- Breast Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology
This unit will provide the student with the basic understanding of breast anatomy, physiology and pathologic changes, and the relevance of these to mammographic appearance and positioning.

- Patient Preparation/Education
This unit will introduce the student to breast self-examination. The student will learn to conduct a patient history interview as well as accurately document patient history and physical findings.

- Mammographic Procedure
This unit will familiarize the student with the equipment appropriate for the mammographic examination. Proper exposure factors, identification and the use of film markers, as well as film processing, will be discussed.

- Positioning Techniques for Mammography
This unit provides the student with an overview of mammographic positioning. In addition, the student will have knowledge of the area of the breast demonstrated by each projection and when it is best used.

- Mammographic Quality Control
At the end of this unit the student will be able to implement and execute a quality control plan, including testing.

- Interventional/Special Procedures
This unit will define interventional procedures used in breast imaging and breast cancer diagnosis, such as needle localizations, galactography and stereotactic biopsies.

- Radiographic Critique/Interpretation
This unit will allow the student to learn how to evaluate radiographic technique, breast structures and pathology. The student will observe a radiologist interpret 20 mammograms.

- Mammographic Physics
- Competency Based Clinical Education
In this unit the student will apply skills learned in the classroom to the performance of mammographic examinations. Students are expected to gain practical experience and demonstrate competency in the areas of patient positioning, breast examination, quality control and film critique.
