About Nuclear Medicine

Nuclear medicine combines physics, mathematics, computer technology and medicine with radiopharmaceuticals to diagnose and treat disease.
Nuclear medicine technology is unique because it provides information about both the structure and function of virtually every major organ
system within the body.

Nuclear medicine technologists operate cameras and computers that detect and map the radioactive drug in a patient’s body to create diagnostic images. Nuclear medicine technologists work closely with other members of the health care team to provide quality care to patients.

Nuclear medicine is a growing field with lots of opportunity. Employment of nuclear medicine technologists is expected to grow faster than the
average for all occupations through the year 2012. As a nuclear medicine technologist, you’ll enjoy working hands-on with people and the
latest technology.
