Radiologic Technology Program
About Radiologic Technology
Radiologic technologists are skilled professionals
who are proficient in the art of performing radiographs
of the human body. They work as assistants
to radiologists, physicians who use x-rays
and other forms of radiant energy to diagnose
and treat diseases.
The radiologic technologist has extensive knowledge
of human anatomy, radiation physics, radiographic
positioning, equipment operation and
film processing. Experienced radiologic technologists
can further their education to specialize in
more complex diagnostic imaging technologies,
including computerized tomography (CT),
magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), positron
emission tomography (PET), nuclear medicine,
ultrasound and radiation therapy. As the population
continues to grow and age, the demand
for radiologic technologists is expected to
increase quickly.
The radiologic technologist is dedicated to the
prevention of disease and understands and
supports quality patient care and medical ethics.
The patient and other members of the health
care team rely on the mature judgment, knowledge
and skill of the technologist to operate the
complex imaging equipment safely and efficiently.
