Standards for Radiologic Technologists
Physical Standards
Radiologic technologists must be able to:
Stoop
|
- to lift radiographic cassettes and films
|
Kneel
|
- to perform CPR, to assist patients who may fall or faint
|
Crouch |
- to place cassettes in the operating room table
|
Reach |
- at least 6’ from floor to overhead radiographic equipment
|
Handle |
- equipment such as overhead tubes, portable machines, c-arm units, control panel knobs & buttons
- patients in wheelchairs and stretchers, IV poles
|
Walk |
- for duration of assigned shift
|
Wear |
- lead aprons, thyroid shields, and lead gloves
|
Hear |
- verbal directions/requests from physicians, patients, etc.
- blood pressure sounds through a stethoscope
- speed of rotor to take exposure and termination sound
- signals from film processor; passbox sounds
|
See |
- motionlessness and breathholding of patient
- requisitions for information related to radiographs
- proper position of patients for radiographs
- proper equipment setup for radiographs
- proper exposure settings for radiographs

Talk |
- to communicate in English to staff; patients, etc.
|
Manipulate. |
- small objects such as knobs, syringes, etc.
|
Mental/Attitudinal Standards:
Radiologic technologists must be able to:
- Function safely, effectively, and calmly under stressful conditions.
- Maintain composure while managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Prioritize multiple tasks.
- Exhibit social skills necessary to interact effectively with patients, families, supervisors and co-workers of the same or different cultures, such as respect, politeness, tact, collaboration, teamwork, discretion.
- Maintain personal hygiene.
