Project DIAL is a three-year research study funded by the Centers
for Disease Control. This study evaluates the effectiveness of brief
motivational interviewing delivered by telephone on reducing motor
vehicle crashes (MVC) and other negative consequences associated
with alcohol use. Patients who are involved in a MVC are recruited
into the study while being treated in the ED. All recruited patients
are followed up 3 and 12 months after being seen in the ED to determine
the longer-term effects of receiving motivational interviewing by
telephone.
