Outpatient Surgical Services
Patient Guide
Recovery
Once in the post-anesthesia care unit (PACU), you will be continually
monitored by the nursing staff. Drinks and light snacks will be
offered to you when you are able to take fluids. The length of time
you stay in the PACU will depend on your surgical procedure and
the type of anesthesia you received.
Your Discharge
The PACU nurse will discuss discharge instructions with you and
your contact person regarding surgical dressing, medications, when
you can bathe, drive, exercise and when to contact your doctor's
office. Patients going home the same day will be escorted to the
door by hospital staff. Patients having surgery in the Ambulatory
Surgical Center are routinely discharged home up until 10 p.m.
We Will Call You
Within 48 hours after your discharge, you will receive a post-operative
phone call. The call will allow us the follow up on your progress,
identify your needs and answer any questions. We will make two attempts
to reach you.
