Collectively, gastrointestinal cancers are among the most common form of malignancies suffered today, affecting nearly a quarter of a million Americans each year. To address this, the Comprehensive Cancer Center of Rhode Island Hospital, The Miriam Hospital and Newport Hospital has brought together nationally recognized leaders in the treatment and research of gastrointestinal cancers.
The center's team-based approach provides state-of-the-art care for patients who have or are at risk for cancers of the upper gastrointestinal tract, such as pancreatic cancer, cancer of the esophagus, and tumors involving the liver.
The evaluation, management and follow-up of patients with these diseases can be complex and usually require multiple disciplines throughout all phases of a patient's illness. Individually, each of the three hospitals has a long history of providing innovative cancer care to thousands of patients in New England and throughout the United States. Together, they offer a unique service that combines their strengths to offer referring physicians and their patients convenient access to a comprehensive range of services and a multidisciplinary team of leading gastrointestinal cancer specialists.
