Are
you Sun Savvy?
Accessorizing for the Sun
Besides applying the proper lotion, you should protect yourself
from the sun's harmful rays by wearing the proper attire. In addition
to the proper protective lotion you should also wear:
- 100% UVA and UVB protected sunglasses. Prolonged UV exposure
to your eyes could lead to cataracts and even melanoma of the
eye.
- A wide-brimmed hat. When choosing the right hat for the
outdoors make sure that it covers your face and neck.
- Tightly woven clothes. Tightly woven clothes help prevent
UV rays from penetrating the skin.
Sunburn Treatment
By not covering up or applying your sunscreen properly, your day
outdoors could turn into a painful night. Here are some tips to
keep the biting sun at bay.
- Certain medications like antibiotics can make the skin sensitive
to light and more prone to burning. Use a sunscreen with a higher
SPF factor or avoid direct sunlight if possible until you finish
your medication.
- A cool bath is better than a hot shower after a day in the sun.
Hot water can irritate the skin and make a sunburn worse.
- Apply moisturizing cream or lotion to the affected areas to
keep skin from peeling and itching.
- Drink plenty of water and avoid alcohol, which can dehydrate
the skin even further.
- Avoid more sun exposure until your sunburn has completely healed.
