If a tour through a Lifespan partner hospital makes you wonder whether you
are in a hospital or an art gallery, it's not surprising. From the sculptures
at Hasbro Children's Hospital and the health care paintings at Rhode Island
Hospital to Bradley Hospital's underground tunnel turned ocean paradise,
art is everywhere. It is enriching the lives of patients and staff and raising
public consciousness about the important role art can play in humanizing
health care.
Artists and collectors have donated more than 650 paintings and sculptures
to Hasbro Children's Hospital. Renowned artist Howard Ben Tré was
commissioned to create the interactive water fountain. The lobby and corridor
walls display over 10,000 Circle of Clay tiles created by Rhode Island
elementary school students. Hospital patients and even former President
Bill Clinton. The Davol corridor at Rhode Island Hospital displays the
work of Lifespan employees and local artists.
The Miriam Hospital has a collection of original art by local artists
and Newport Hospital, thanks to generous gifts, also has works of art
on display. One of our more popular exhibits is the assortment of folk
art, dolls and collectibles, on loan from our employees, in the corridor
connecting Hasbro Children's Hospital and Rhode Island Hospital.
To further brighten the walls, Hasbro Children's Hospital, in collaboration
with the Art league of Rhode Island created the Hall of Masters Past and
Present project. Artists from the League recreate famous works of art
on a miniature scale and then expand them into fanciful, imaginative paintings
for the specialties clinic exam rooms.
