A partnership of the Community Asthma Programs of Hasbro Children's
Hospital and the Providence School Department, the Providence School
Asthma Partnership was formed to improve the health and quality
of life of children with asthma through education, management support
and advocacy.
The Providence Asthma School Partnership is funded by the Robert
Wood Johnson Foundation, the Rhode Island Foundation, Rhode Island
Hospital Foundation, and Health and Education Leadership for Providence.
Our Goals
The partnership's goal is to ensure that children with asthma begin
each school day ready to learn by:

- Reducing the number of school days missed due to asthma

stays for asthma
- Improving child and family knowledge and confidence in managing

workshops for parents and their children; classes are offered
in English and Spanish and are held weekly in a different elementary
school

children with asthma.
- During the class, medical equipment for home asthma control
is explained through demonstration; families receive free peak
flow meters and spacers, if needed; Food, transportation, and
babysitting are also provided.
- Asthma support groups provide continuous learning opportunities
to families who participate in classes; groups for English and
Spanish speakers; these are the only asthma support groups in
Rhode Island.

identified with severe asthma; all families screened during workshops;
children participate in asthma lunch groups.
