  • Cardiac CT Scans

  • Our hospitals were the first in Rhode Island to use a 64-slice CT scanner, which is useful in diagnosing a variety of cardiac conditions—most notably coronary artery disease. The scanner has sub-millimeter resolution that provides crystal-clear, stop-action images of the heart, with detail so precise that even coronary artery disease can be accurately detected before significant heart damage is sustained.

Coronary artery disease is a nationwide epidemic, and its effect on the heart can be catastrophic. This powerful diagnostic tool can provide lifesaving information about your heart and coronary circulation in less than 15 minutes with a simple intravenous injection.

The scanner produces images that are then processed by a computer to create three-dimensional images of the heart and surrounding structures. We are able to see static images of the heart in enough detail to detect the early stages of plaque buildup in coronary arteries, which was never before possible in a noninvasive way.

We can identify people with coronary artery disease, and assess the severity of disease when present. We can also rule out coronary disease in patients who have unusual symptoms. This allows physicians to diagnose and prescribe treatment for heart disease earlier than ever before and to offer you the best opportunity to prevent further damage to your heart.
