Read about the cardiac gamma camera.

Nuclear imaging is often used to diagnose coronary artery disease, which occurs when plaque builds up in the arteries that supply blood to the heart. Small, safe amounts of radioactive materials are used to enable pictures of the heart to be taken to diagnose heart-related diseases.

Nuclear imaging tests evaluate how your heart functions during exercise. If you cannot exercise, we can perform the test using special drugs that simulate exercise. The tests help us determine your heart’s capacity, physical conditioning and if it is receiving enough blood under stress or rest conditions. Test results are reported within 24 hours and within a few hours for our emergency room patients.

Our nuclear cameras dedicated to cardiac studies are equipped with the most sophisticated technology available, allowing us to confidently determine if a stress scan is normal, in many cases eliminating the need to return for a second test. Our nuclear medicine technologists and nurses have specialized cardiac training in noninvasive stress testing of the heart. The physicians who read the tests are national leaders in the field.
