Bradley Hasbro Children's Research Center
Research Laboratories
The Bradley Hasbro Children's research center has established three
major laboratories.
- Sleep and Chronobiology Laboratory
The Sleep and Chronobiology Laboratory studies the sleep habits
of children, adolescents and young adults and monitors how each
group is affected by sleepiness. The laboratory provides training
in sleep research methodology at all levels, from undergraduate
training to postdoctoral research fellowships.
- Infant Development Unit
The Infant Development Unit studies the long-term
outcomes of children's exposure to cocaine and other drugs in
utero; brain development, language and school performance are
analyzed. The laboratory is also conducting a series of studies
to evaluate the causes of excessive crying during infancy in relation
to the development of infants and families.
- Developmental Psychopathology Laboratory
The Developmental Psychopathology Laboratory studies
the development of children who are at risk for mental illness.
The focus is on the first years of life, concentrating on parenting,
family processes, and children's social-emotional development.
This includes studies where parents are identified based on history
of mental health problems, and children who have risk factors
associated with poverty. A clinical research component includes
mental health consultation to area Head Start and Early Head Start
programs, including research and program evaluation.
