Description
Program evaluation within a system of service delivery requires specification of methods for assessing and tracking child developmental outcomes, as well as for training evaluators. We consider effective program evaluation to be a central mechanism by which improvement in child outcomes and early learning environments of children is not only tracked but also influenced. This project is an intervention designed to enhance Head Start teachers' ability to use a classroom-based system of tracking and monitoring child developmental progress in order to create optimal early childhood learning environments in their classrooms.

The intervention targets teachers' ability to:

  1. enhance child developmental performance
  2. individualize curricula and
  3. maintain optimal classroom learning environments.

Significance
This research will yield information about child progress in the Head Start preschool setting, and will inform policy decisions for best practices in Head Start regarding child developmental outcomes associated with school readiness.
