Ischemic Optic Neuropathy Study
A clinical trial is underway to study ischemic optic neuropathy. Although the
disease is not common, it has a devastating course and there is currently no
treatment for it.
The main symptom of the disease is the acute loss of vision in one eye. There
are no age limits, but most patients are between the ages of 55 and 65.
The study, conducted by neurophthalmologists Marjorie Murphy, MD, and
Arthur Geltzer, MD, will evaluate the natural course of the disease using
interference imaging and will test whether a new medication can protect the
optic nerve. Patients involved in the study can continue to be treated by their
own physicians.
