Here are some tips to keeping the air clean in your home:

  • Make sure your carbon monoxide detector is up-to-date and working.
  • Have your fuel-burning appliances inspected at least once a year.
  • Avoid using charcoal grills inside your home or an unventilated garage.
  • Make sure the garage door is up before starting your car.
  • Make sure all carbon monoxide producing appliances are properly ventilated.

Know the Signs and Symptoms

Seek medical attention immediately if you or a family member experience the following symptoms:

  • headache
  • irritability
  • confusion
  • impaired judgment
  • bizarre behavior
  • shortness of breath
  • rapid breathing
  • chest pain
  • nausea and vomiting
  • hyperactivity

Call 911 if you or a family member experiences the following the symptoms:

  • fainting
  • unconsciousness
  • difficulty breathing
  • abnormal heart beat
  • rapid heart beat
  • low blood pressure
  • convulsions
  • shock
