One common place for fires to start is the kitchen. Review and
practice these safe-cooking tips with your family:
- An adult should always be present in the kitchen when kids are
preparing food or the stove is on.
- Keep the stove clear of anything that can catch on fire (paper,
towels, pot holders)
- Keep the area around the stove kid-free. When kids are helping
with dinner, remember to keep them three feet away from the stove
while it's in use.
- Cook on the back burners if you can and be sure pan handles
point toward the back of the stove. This will prevent someone
from bumping into the pans and getting burned by hot foods or
boiling water.
