Emergency Services:
What to expect during your visit
What happens when I first arrive?
If you arrive at the emergency department with a life-threatening
condition, you will be taken directly to a treatment area and cared
for immediately. If your condition is not life threatening, you
will be directed to the triage area. The process of making sure
that patients with the most serious needs are treated first is known
as "triage." This means that heart attacks have priority
over earaches and complicated fractures are treated before small
cuts.

will I have to wait?
