The RISE Clinic at The Miriam Hospital is a tuberculosis clinic
sponsored by the Rhode Island Department of Health. Clinic staff
members are experienced in TB care and know how to safely handle
contagious patients.
The RISE Clinic has about 8,500 patient visits each year. Most
patients whom the clinic treats are not contagious; most carry the
TB infection, but are not ill from the disease. The clinic works
to eliminate the chances that these patients will ever get ill from
TB or be able to pass TB on to others.
Our services
The clinic provides an array of services for patients, depending
on their individual needs.
- Clinic outreach workers meet patients who are diagnosed
with TB, escort them to the clinic and orient them to their treatment
program immediately after they are discharged from the hospital.
- The clinic also has a directly observed therapy program,
where an outreach worker administers every dose of medication
a patient receives. This enables the clinic staff to determine
if a patient is having trouble with medication early on and verify
that it is being taken.
