Rhode Island Hospital
Living Donor Transplant Program
Kidney Donor Guide

Rhode Island Hospital offers one of the largest, fastest-growing transplant programs in New England. Approximately one half of the transplanted kidneys at the hospital are from live donors.

If you are interested in becoming a donor or have any questions regarding our program please call 401-444-8562 or 1-888-444-0102.

When considering the option of kidney donation, a donor will have several questions. Our philosophy is that you should have all the information needed to make an informed decision that is right for you. Donating a kidney is a major personal decision. You should know as much as possible about the risks and rewards for both you and your recipient.

The information in this section is provided by the Rhode Island Hospital Kidney Tranplant Center to educate potential donors about the donation process, including donor evaluation, testing, surgery, recovery and costs. It has been adapted from a donor guide written by transplant coordinator Bette Hopkins-Garcia, RN, CCTC, and edited by transplant specialists Reginald Gohh, MD; Angelito Yango, MD; and Paul Morrissey, MD.
