Richard J. Goldberg, MD, Psychiatrist-in-Chief, Rhode Island Hospital and The Miriam Hospital
The Department of Psychiatry at Rhode Island Hospital is a major component of the psychiatry and behavioral health service line at Lifespan, and is one of the leading general hospital clinical, educational and research programs in the nation. There are currently over 65 full-time psychiatrists and psychologists and over 125 additional staff.
Rhode Island Hospital is a significant contributor to the Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior of Brown University. Virtually all our doctoral level staff are faculty, and we provide major support for psychiatry residency training, as well as the psychology internship and postdoctoral programs of Brown University.
Our location in the general hospital enables us to provide truly integrated medical and psychiatric care. We are proud of our record in recruiting and retaining distinguished clinicians and scholars who are regarded as leaders in their respective fields. We are also proud of our efforts to decrease the stigma of mental illness. We contribute to the overall mission of Rhode Island Hospital by addressing the psychiatric and behavioral aspects of medical disorders. Above all, we are aware of our responsibility to our patients and we work to provide a level of care that we would want for our own families.
