Clinical research is an important part of the work of the Alzheimer's Disease and Memory Disorders Center. Although currently there is no cure for Alzheimer's disease and other degenerative memory disorders, aggressive research studies are ongoing and are continually shedding new light on these illnesses.

    Research areas of interest include:

    • Studies of drivers with dementia and of caregiving for persons with dementia, sponsored by the National Institutes of Health
    • Brain imaging in dementia - The Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative
    • Recognition and treatment of mild cognitive impairment
    • Cognitive therapy for memory loss (neurofeedback)
    • Quality of life for dementia patients
    • Memory impairment secondary to stroke
    • Hormonal factors and gender effects in Alzheimer's disease
